Between March and August of 2026, a short stretch of Communipaw Avenue in Bergen-Lafayette gained a reformer Pilates studio, a fourth Modcup cafe, a dessert counter and a Haitian coffee nonprofit, and it got back one of its best-known restaurants. Each one opened on its own schedule and for its own reasons. Lay their posted hours side by side, though, and they barely overlap. Together they cover the day in order, starting with the first espresso and ending with the last kitchen order.

For anyone who lives within walking distance, the new part is less any single opening than the full day the avenue can now hold. A year ago, the 300 block of Communipaw had a dinner anchor that was closed after a fire. Now the block between 339 and 360 handles morning, afternoon and night, with the dessert and coffee stops farther up the avenue picking up the rest.

The Morning Belongs to 344 and 360

The day opens at Modcup, which began service at 360 Communipaw Avenue this spring and runs daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to Jersey Digs. Modcup's own locations page lists the same daily hours for its Bergen-Lafayette cafe. This is the roaster's fourth outpost. Founder Travas Clifton started Modcup in 2013 as a single coffee cart in Hoboken, later ran it out of a 1969 Citroën truck in Exchange Place, and opened the first brick-and-mortar cafe on Palisade Avenue in The Heights. The Senate Place and Hoboken 4th Street locations came after that. The "Caffeine and Dreams" neon sign made the move to Communipaw too.

Sixteen doors down, Cornerstone Pilates opened at 344 Communipaw Avenue at the end of March, and Hoboken Girl described it as newly open on March 31, 2026. It's a reformer studio founded by Kyra, built around what the studio calls mindful strength and community-driven wellness. The studio offers four class styles with morning and evening sessions every day. It has also announced free community classes and monthly social events.

That schedule matters for the corridor. Morning classes put people on the block around the same time Modcup opens, and evening classes bring them back after Modcup has closed and the dinner kitchen up the street is running.

The Handoff Happens at 3 P.M.

Harry's Daughter at 339 Communipaw Avenue had been closed since a kitchen fire in June 2025. Jersey Digs reported in June that owners Ria Ramkissoon and Alasdair Cotter set June 19 as their reopening date, with the old favorites back on the menu, a refreshed Caribbean beach bar atmosphere, backyard dining and a new brunch service. The restaurant's website now says it is open again with a new menu. The restaurant first opened in 2017. Jersey Digs, which covered that opening, calls it a Caribbean-Irish fusion spot with Trinidadian-inspired dishes and counts it among the city's most distinctive restaurants. The hanging chairs are part of the place's look.

The kitchen hours on its homepage are what tie the avenue's schedule together. Here's how the posted hours line up on a weekday:

  1. 7:30 a.m.: Modcup opens at 360 Communipaw.
  2. Morning: Cornerstone Pilates runs its first classes at 344 Communipaw.
  3. 3 p.m.: The Harry's Daughter kitchen opens at 339 Communipaw.
  4. 4:30 p.m.: Modcup closes.
  5. Evening: Cornerstone runs its evening classes.
  6. 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, midnight Friday and Saturday: The Harry's Daughter kitchen closes.

For 90 minutes each afternoon, the coffee counter and the dinner kitchen are both open within the same few hundred feet. Before June, the 300 block had no evening kitchen of its own. Harry's Daughter says it's open seven days a week, so the handoff happens every day. Neither the reopening coverage nor the restaurant's site says which days brunch is served, so check before you plan a weekend morning around it.

After Dinner, the Avenue Stretches Uphill

After dinner, the avenue keeps going west. Sugar Theory at 574 Communipaw Avenue was listed as open in Hoboken Girl's spring 2026 roundup. The menu has cookies, cheesecakes, brownies, sundaes, crepes and milkshakes, plus wings and fries for anyone who wants something savory. It works on takeout and online orders only, with no dine-in. Its website doesn't post hours, so check before walking over late.

The daytime sweets stop is around the corner. Mochi Dough at 68 Monitor Street held its grand opening weekend starting March 27, 2026, serving pon-de-ring donuts, bubble tea and Korean egg-drop sandwiches. Jersey Digs reported hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Mondays, with a 7 p.m. close Friday through Sunday. That puts Mochi Dough across the afternoon, picking up after the morning coffee rush and wrapping up before the late dinner hours at Harry's Daughter.

The Newest Address Sits at 700

The most recent arrival is also the farthest up the avenue. Singing Rooster, a nonprofit social enterprise, connects Haitian coffee farmers, cacao producers and artisans with buyers. In a July 17, 2026 post, it announced a move from Wisconsin to upper Communipaw Avenue. The Jersey City Times found it at 700 Communipaw Avenue, inside an old auto garage that still looks like Joe's Auto from the street. The paper ran its September 22 feature under a headline about the roastery wanting to give its Communipaw neighbors a place to go, with co-owner Molly Nicaise pictured.

Public access is still taking shape. Hoboken Girl's August 1 news roundup reported Singing Rooster Cafe open at 700 Communipaw. The organization's own site only mentions warehouse visits by appointment for wholesale customers and lists no walk-in cafe hours. In its relocation announcement, Singing Rooster said it hopes to build local relationships and take part in markets and community events. Proceeds from its Haitian coffee, chocolate and handmade art support rural communities and small businesses in Haiti. Check the current schedule before you go.

Two Late-October Weekends Just Off the Avenue

This month, two events near the corridor pull the weekend toward its side streets.

Sunday, October 25. The fourth annual Monticello Fall Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Common Earth Company, 99 Monticello Avenue, according to JCFamilies' weekly events listing updated September 30.

Saturday, October 31. The Hudson County Fall Fest is set for 902 Brewing Co. at 101 Pacific Avenue. It's free with registration and family-focused, with trick-or-treating, train rides, obstacle courses, face painting, vendors, food and music on the ticket listing. The posted times don't agree. The county's ticket page says 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., JCFamilies lists noon to 6 p.m., and 902's own calendar shows the taproom closed for a private event from noon to 6 p.m. that day. Confirm with the county before planning around a start time.

The brewery is worth knowing about for regular weekends too. 902 describes a taproom of about 2,000 square feet with its brewing tanks in view, dogs welcome, and a calendar of live music, art, trivia and comedy. Its rooftop hosts music, DJs and comedians with views of Manhattan.

What the Clock Shows

None of these businesses shares an owner or a plan. Modcup came as the next step for a roaster that started on a Hoboken sidewalk. Cornerstone is a founder-led studio. Harry's Daughter reopened after a year closed by fire. Singing Rooster moved halfway across the country to an old garage. Lined up by their posted hours, they cover nearly every part of the day. Mornings start at 360. Afternoons run through Modcup's last hour and on to Monitor Street. Evenings belong to 339 and Cornerstone's late classes, and the night ends with dessert from 574.

The last kitchen order at Harry's Daughter on a Friday or Saturday is at midnight, about sixteen and a half hours after Modcup unlocks its door a block away.
